Grenada to Carriacou by fast ferry, mail-boat, or schooner
OSPREY EXPRESS — the first French designed Catamaran ferry came into operation in 1996. The more recent Osprey Express sails twice daily between St. George's and Hillsborough, in the record time of one hour and fifteen minutes. All shipshape and Bristol fashion, with a friendly Petite Martinique crew.
Departure Carenage, St. George's:
Daily except Sunday 9.00am & 5.30pm
Sunday 8.00 am and 5.30 pm
Departure Hillsborough dock:
Daily except Sunday 6.00pm & 3.30pm
Sunday 3.30 pm.
Fare: EC $70 one-way and EC $140 return.
Boats leave from the Carenage in the capital of St. George's and from the Dock in the main town of Hillsborough.
The adventurous can come "up" on an inter-island freight schooner, or mail-boat, which announce the sailing times as: "every Wednesday and Saturday morning, around half past nine o'clock, please God," with everything and a few passengers. The voyage takes four hours, but if the sea is rough it can seem a lot longer. From the Carenage in St. George's the twice-daily catamaran ferry
OSPREY EXPRESS completes the crossing in the record time of 70 minutes .
Plans are afoot to operate a scheduled ferry-service between Carriacou and Union Island (St. Vincent and the Grenadines) using a 50 ft. Beachcomber Boat with an approximate capacity of 75 persons. Projected fare EC $30.00 return per person.
Water Taxi: Union to Carriacou EC $100.00 per person minimum of two people — two pieces of luggage each.
